Greenlough Parish Mission: 25th April - 3rd May
23 April 2009

Greenlough Parish Mission
Saturday 25th April to Sunday 3rd May 2009
'It is wonderful for us to be here.'
My Lord and my God
Jesus said: "Peace be with you As the Father sent me, so am I sending you." We are all very familiar today with the idea of peace processes - in Northern Ireland, the Middle East and so on. Jesus needs us to engage in a peace process with one another so that we can be his disciples and true witnesses of his resurrection. We need first of all to put away all weapons of mass destruction like criticism, anger, coldness, selfishness etc. We need to put in place of these the qualities of God's Spirit, namely love, joy, peace, patience etc. This week we should practise these qualities first of all in our homes as wife and husband, as parents and family. We also need to practise them as we build our parish community to the glory of God.
Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.
Our Mission runs from Saturday night the 25th April to Sunday afternoon the 3rd of May. But a Mission is not really an isolated event. It builds on the deep spiritual traditions of the parish, reminds us of who we are as a living faith community, and leads us into fresh developments in our parish life.
There will be two morning Masses during the Mission Week, at 6.30am and 9.30am. Then, each evening at 7.30pm there will be Mission Services, presenting the themes of each day, and calling us to celebrate.
We will remember our dead at the Thursday morning masses, and on Thursday evening there will be a special Mass for the Anointing of the Sick. Both St. Mary’s Primary School and St. Mary’s College will play their part. St. Mary’s College will have Mass in the Church at 12.00 noon on Tuesday 28th April.
Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.
Originally from Carndonagh, Co. Donegal, Fr. Johnny is Rector of the Redemptorist Community at Esker, Athenry, Co. Galway. As well as his Redemptorist Community work, he has worked with Accord as a specialist in Marriage & Family Life, with Veritas, as Director of Parish Renewal Resources, and with the Irish Bishops’ Commission for Pastoral Renewal and Adult Faith Development. He is the founder of the Love is for Life Trust and the Movement of Continuous Prayer for Marriage & Family Life.
Fr Johnny will be assisted by Fr. Mick Sweeney, no stranger to Greenlough. Fr. Mick lives in his native Ballyliffin, after a lifetime of service in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle, in north-east England.

Our Parish Mission Prayer
The Blessing of the Senses
May the yoke of God’s commandments
be upon your shoulder;
May the visitation of the Holy Spirit
be upon your head;
May the sign of Christ
be on your forehead;
May the listening of the Holy Spirit
be in your ears;
May the fragrance of the Holy spirit
be in your nose;
May the vision of the people of heaven
be in your eyes;
May the conversation of the people of heaven
be in your mouth;
May the work of God’s church
be in your hands;
May the good of God and the neighbours
be in your feet;
May your heart
be a place for God,
And may your whole person
belong to God, the Father of all.
Amen.
