 Christ, the True Vine

Jesus said to his disciples: “It is to the glory of my Father that you should bear much fruit.” When we think of faith we generally think of our faith in God. Jesus reveals God’s faith in us, and the trust he puts in us to show his love to the world in which we live. We ‘bear much fruit’ for God by the way we love one another, first of all in our homes, and then in our community. Each of us has a great responsibility to practice all the qualities of love constantly – kindness, gentleness, compassion, understanding, forgiveness, encouragement, praise, thanksgiving and so on. Our homes and our parish community should be places where everyone can be glad to be and can know God’s love and praise his name. In this way, the renewal of the Church is never completed but is something that is started fresh every Sunday.

 Morning Prayer, when together

God our Father, look upon us with love.

You redeem us and make us your children in Christ.

Give us true freedom

and bring us to the inheritance you promised.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

During the day, when apart

God of everlasting love

you share with us your divine life through our marriage.

Grant that everything we do for one another

may be directed by the knowledge of your truth.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Evening/Night Prayer together

God of mercy and love,

give us new purpose in our lives as wife and husband.

Through our love for one another

bring us to a new life in you.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Questions for Action for the week

For your marriage: Take time to enjoy each other’s company this week.  In what ways will you show your love by actions of deep tenderness and affection?

For others: Think of someone in your family or community to whom you could be particularly kind this week. How will you go about it?
