Give to God what belongs to God

Jesus said: “Give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar – and to God what belongs to God.” One of the biggest mistakes we make as human beings is to think that what we have belongs to us! The more wonderful truth is that all we have is a gift from God who loves us and who wants us to live in the freedom of that love. The best way of human living is to treasure everything in life rather than try to possess it; to count our blessings rather than moan about what we don’t have. And the greatest treasure of all is each other. The quality of our love for one another in marriage and family life is a measure and major part of our worship of God. That love needs to be such that it will radiate out and include those with whom we worship at the Eucharist and so we build a faith community to the glory of God.

 Morning Prayer, when together

Almighty and ever-living God,

our source of power and inspiration,

give us strength and joy

in serving you as followers of Christ.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

 During the day, when apart

Lord God, may the gift of our love

bring us your love and forgiveness

and give us freedom to serve you with our lives.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

 Evening/Night Prayer together

Lord, may your love for us

help us to remain faithful to you and to each other.

May it teach us the way to eternal life.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Questions for Action for the week

For your marriage: What do you appreciate most about your wife/husband? How could you tell her/him this week?

For others: Think of some group that works for justice in the world. How could you support that group this week?
