The Body and Blood of Christ

“Take this and eat”, Jesus said, “This is my body. This is my blood, the blood of the covenant which is to be poured out for many.” What an extraordinary love Christ has for us that led him to give us this wonderful sacrament through which he is our food and drink. And yet we become so used to the knowledge of it that we can even see it as a burden. But we do the same with our love for one another. In marriage and family life many people feel burdened by the demands of love. In parish life we can settle for a minimum. This week is a very special time to renew the sense of awe that should be ours when we think of the extent of God’s love for us and the privilege of our love for one another. It is a week to cry out: “My Lord and my God” and to say again to each other “I love you”.

Morning Prayer, when together

Lord Jesus Christ, you gave us the Eucharist

as the memorial of your suffering and death.

May our worship of this sacrament of your body and blood

help us to experience the salvation you won for us

and the peace of your kingdom.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

During the day, when apart

Lord, may our sacrament of marriage

be strengthened by the sacrament of your body and blood.

May we bring to our world

the unity and peace that is your desire.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Evening/Night Prayer together

Lord Jesus Christ,

you give us your body and blood in the Eucharist

as a sign that even now we share your life.

May we come to possess it completely in your kingdom.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Questions for Action for the week

For your marriage: What fears do you have in your married and family life? Share these with each other this week.

For others: Is there someone whom you could encourage this week to begin going to Mass again? How could you go about this?
