The Presentation of the Lord

“The child grew to maturity, and he was filled with wisdom; and God’s favour was with him.” The beautiful relationship of Jesus with Mary and Joseph, and their relationship with the wider community in Simeon and Anna, is a wonderful revelation of what is now at the heart of every family. It is expressed in the term the Domestic Church. It is there, in each family home that the Church is at its best, and its worst, because it is in our family homes in a special way that Jesus lives.  But the family needs the support of the wider community in order to grow in love.  And the wider community needs each family to be alive and active for the transformation of the world. “The future of humanity passes by way of the family.” This statement of John Paul 11 in his letter Familiaris Consortio needs to be taken very seriously by all of us today especially.

Morning Prayer, when together

Father, you call us your people,

to be the light of the world in Christ your Son.

May our love for one another shine out

to bring warmth to all those we meet.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

During the day, when apart.

Lord, accept the gift of our married love

which we offer with joy.

May we bring your love to our family and friends.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Evening/Night Prayer together

Lord, you fulfilled the hope of Simeon,

who did not die until he welcomed the Messiah.

Perfect your grace in us

and prepare us to meet Christ

when he comes to bring us into everlasting life.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
