Station Area's in the Parish
The “Stations” or Mass in the local households are held in Lent and October each year. This is a very ancient practice– predating even the Penal Times. This custom of the “Stations” is only found in the Diocese of Derry, the Diocese of Raphoe and a few other dioceses in Ireland. But there are no “Stations” in the Diocese of Armagh or in the Diocese of Down and Connor. The ritual at the Station is that the Priest blesses water for Holy Water and then blesses the household and the assembled company from the neighbourhood. After that, there is a rite of Reconciliation and Mass with Holy Communion. Usually the Priest would attend the Sick in their own homes on the day of the Station.
