 He gathers the humble

Jesus said: “Those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted”. Sometimes we think that to be humble means that we think that we are no good and that rightly does not fit well with us because it does not mean that at all. We have a right to know how good we are and a responsibility to help others to know how good they are. Pride means putting ourselves at the centre of our world and insisting that everything revolves around us. Humility means making others the centre of our lives, and our energy and care are given to them. In this sense another word for humility is love. The message of Jesus again today and for this week is that if we want to be really happy we have to learn to forget about our own petty preoccupations and give ourselves generously to God and to one another.

Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Morning Prayer, when together

Almighty God, every good thing comes from you.

Fill our hearts with love for you,

increase our faith and by your constant care

protect the good you have given us.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

During the day, when apart

Lord, may the offering we make of our married love

bring us your blessing and accomplish within us

its promise of salvation.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Evening/Night Prayer together

Lord, you renew us constantly through your Spirit.

May you always strengthen us in love

and help us to serve you in each other.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
