 The Joy of Salvation

“(John) went through the whole Jordan district proclaiming a baptism for the forgiveness of sins.” Every day we are made aware of how much evil there is in our world, with stories of war, of cruelty and vandalism at home and abroad. And yet in spite of this awareness there is a huge decline in our sense of sin.  In some ways this is a good development because in former times so much was thought of as sin. However, as we approach Christmas and beyond, it is important that we hear the call for repentance and leave anything that is harmful in the past behind us by placing it firmly in the hands of Christ, especially through celebrating the great Sacrament of Confession. This makes it possible for us to make a fresh start again and again in our relationships with God and with one another in our homes and in our parish community.

Morning Prayer, when together

God of power and mercy, open our hearts in welcome.

Remove the things that hinder us from receiving Christ with joy,

so that we may share his wisdom

and become one with him when he comes in glory.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

During the day, when apart

Lord, we are nothing without you.

As you sustain us with your mercy

receive our prayers for our marriage and family

and accept the offering of our married love.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Evening/Night Prayer together

Father, you reveal your love for us every day.

By our sharing in your life through our marriage

teach us to judge wisely the things of earth

and to love the things of heaven.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Questions for Action for the week

For your marriage: How could you help to keep a smile on the face of your husband/wife this week?

For others: What do you need to do so that you can be particularly cheerful this week?
