 Saviour of all peoples

Jesus said: “There are those now last who will be first, and those now first who will be last”. One of the basic needs of the human person is to be successful. The fulfilment of this need brings people in all kinds of directions in life. Some people invest themselves in work and their whole self-worth is associated with how successful they are there. Then they have to retire! For others it is found in the kind of home they have, or their popularity, or in sport etc. All of these are good things but when they become our reason for being able to say, “I am the best” they have led us astray. The way of Jesus puts success in love as our priority. Through love we put our beloved as number one whether that beloved is our wife/husband, our children, our community, and in so far as we do that we live with great peace and joy and inherit eternal life.

Morning Prayer, when together

Father, help us to seek the values

that will bring us enduring joy in this changing world.

In our desire for what you promise

make us one in mind and heart in our marriage.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

During the day, when apart

Merciful God, the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ

made us your people.

In your love, grant peace and unity to your Church

through the Sacrament of our marriage.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Evening/Night Prayer together

Lord, may our Sacrament of marriage increase with us

the healing power of your love.

May it guide and direct our efforts

to please you in all things.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Questions for Action for the week

For your marriage: In what ways does your wife/husband need to be loved in the week ahead? How will you do it?

For others: With whom do you most need to be reconciled? How can you do that this week?
