Holy Week
Holy Week is the most sacred time for us as followers of Christ. It is the week when Lenten penance should be exercised in a special way by taking time personally, as a family, and in the faith community to journey with Jesus into his death on the Cross, and beyond. The stages of his journey are: Palm Sunday: from being celebrated to being forgotten; Holy Thursday: from giving himself to his disciples in the Eucharist to being denied by them; Good Friday: from surrendering himself to God’s will, to being abandoned even by God in death; Holy Saturday: from complete emptiness in death to new life. During Holy Week we journey through all these stages with Jesus so that he may bring us new life and hope.
Morning Prayer, when together
Almighty, ever-living God, you have given the human race
Jesus Christ our Saviour as a model of humility.
He fulfilled your will by becoming flesh
and giving his life on the Cross.
Help us to bear witness to you
by following his example of suffering
and make us worthy to share in his resurrection.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
During the day, when apart
Father, may the suffering and death of Jesus, your Son
make us pleasing to you.
Through our love for each other may we know your mercy and love.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
Evening/Night Prayer together
Father, the death of your Son gives us hope and strengthens our faith.
May his resurrection give us perseverance in our love
and lead us to salvation.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
Questions for Action for the week
For your marriage: How could you spend some special time with each other this week to remember and relive special times you have had in your marriage?
For others: This week, could you visit someone who is housebound or in hospital?
