THE COUPLE THAT PRAYS TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER
Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.
September 19th - 25th 2021
Christ, the Son of God.
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘If anyone wants to be first he/she must make himself/herself least of all and servant of all.’ Whoever said that religion is the opium of the people obviously never read the Gospels because if opium was nearly as difficult to take as some of the things that Jesus said there would be very few people taking it! And yet the truth is that only his way works. We all want to be first in so many different ways. We can see people in every sphere of life going around puffed up with their self-importance, often putting others down in order to keep their position. It is the opposite to the way of Jesus and can never lead to lasting happiness. This week again we are invited to practice putting other people first, especially in our families and parish communities and know the joy that this brings.
Morning Prayer, when together
Father, guide us as you guide creation
according to your law of love.
May we love one another and come to perfection
in the eternal life prepared for us.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
During the day, when apart
Lord, may the gift of our marriage that we offer
to show our belief and our love be pleasing to you.
Through the living of our sacrament
may we be more fully united with Christ your Son.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
Evening/Night Prayer together
Lord, help us with your kindness.
Make us strong in our love and our commitment.
May we put into action the saving mystery of your love.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
Questions for Action for the week
For your marriage: In what ways could you surprise your wife/husband in your love this week?
For others: Pray for children and young people this week that they may find the presence of Christ in their lives as they grow up.
