THE COUPLE THAT PRAYS TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER.
August 25th – 31st 2013
21st Sunday in Ordinary Time
Saviour of all peoples
Jesus said: “There are those now last who will be first, and those now first who will be last”. One of the basic needs of the human person is to be successful. The fulfilment of this need brings people in all kinds of directions in life. Some people invest themselves in work and their whole self-worth is associated with how successful they are there. Then they have to retire! For others it is found in the kind of home they have, or their popularity, or in sport etc. All of these are good things but when they become our reason for being able to say, “I am the best” they have led us astray. The way of Jesus puts being successful in love as our priority. Through love we put our beloved as number one whether that beloved is our wife/husband, our children, our community, and in so far as we do that we live with great peace and joy and inherit eternal life.

Morning Prayer, when together
Father, help us to seek the values
that will bring us lasting joy in this changing world.
In our desire for what you promise
make us one in mind and heart.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
During the day, when apart
Merciful God, the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ
which we live out in our sacrament of marriage
made us your people.
In your love, grant peace and unity to your Church.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
Evening/Night Prayer together
Lord, increase within us
the healing power of your love.
Guide and direct our efforts to love one another
so that we may please you in all things.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Questions for Action for the week
For your marriage: In what special ways do you see your wife/husband needs to be loved in the week ahead? How will you do it?
For others: With whom do you most need to be reconciled? How will you do it this week?
