 The Missionary Church

“So, they set off to preach repentance.” There are many strange contradictions in our world today. One of them is that so many of us have lost a sense of sin and yet the power of evil was never so obvious. Maybe this is a reaction to the past where sin seemed to be in everything. One of the major sins for most of us is in settling for so little when so much is on offer. This happens when a couple settles for mediocrity rather than a sense of adventure in their marriage; when a family settles for coexistence rather than love; when a parish settles for duty rather than building a real faith community. We may not be able to do a lot about the general evil that is in the world. We can do a lot about our own setting of limits and this in turn will affect the world we live in.

Morning Prayer, when together

God our Father, your light of truth

guides us to the way of Christ.

May we who follow him in our marriage

reject what is contrary to the gospel.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

During the day, when apart

Lord, accept us as gifts of your church.

May our sacrament of marriage

help us grow in holiness and faith.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen

Evening/Night Prayer together

Lord, by our sharing in the mystery of your love

through our love in marriage,

let your saving love grow within us

and enable us to bring your love to the world around us.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen

Questions for Action for the week

For your marriage: In what ways do you see you have settled for less than is possible in your marriage? Share on this with each other this week.

For others: In what ways could you, as a couple, help the Missionary work of the Church this week?
