Pentecost

THE COUPLE THAT PRAYS TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER.

 Pentecost

Jesus said to his disciples: “Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so am I sending you.” Then he breathed on them and said: “Receive the Holy Spirit.” As we celebrate Pentecost in our homes and our faith communities, there are two qualities we need to develop – peace and energy. Peace is Christ’s desire for us as we journey with him and with one another. But peace is not a passive thing. Rather it is a dynamic way of life. We are to be his witnesses in the world, and so he gives us his Holy Spirit so that we can have the energy we need in order to witness through love. This love is practiced and developed in marriage and family life.  It needs to be extended to the life of the parish community. Our motto for this week of Pentecost can be: “Love as if everything depends on you.  Live as if everything depends on God.”

Morning Prayer, when together

God our Father, let the Spirit you sent on your Church

to begin the teaching of the Gospel

continue to work in the world

through our love for one another in our marriage

and through the hearts of all who believe.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

During the day, when apart

Loving God, may the Spirit you promised

lead us into all truth and so set us free.

Through that same Spirit reveal to us

the full meaning of our sacrament of marriage.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Evening/Night Prayer together

Father, may our love for one another in marriage

help our eternal redemption.

Keep within us the vigour of your Spirit

and protect the gifts you have given to your Church.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Questions for Action for the week

For your marriage: How could you as a couple tell each of your children the special gifts you see in them and tell them of your love for them this week?

For others: Do you know of any group in your parish that is working for young people? How could you support them this week?
