The Transfiguration of the Lord

THE COUPLE THAT PRAYS TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER.

 Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

 August 6th  - 12th 2023

‘Stand up, do not be afraid’

When they (the disciples) raised their eyes, they saw no one but only Jesus’. So much of what we are familiar with seems to be collapsing around us today. Some marriages are breaking up; families are being torn apart; the Church would seem to be losing many of her young people and many not so young; society is changing at a fast pace, and not always for the better. Many people are fearful about the future. And yet Jesus tells us ‘do not be afraid’. He does not tell us not to feel afraid but rather not to live imprisoned by fear. The challenge is for married couples to live their love for each other as fully as they can. That will give hope to many others. That challenge is also for each family to build up their home as a place where each one can really be at home and that will make a difference for many others. And of course, the challenge is for each parish to renew its commitment to being the presence of Christ by the joy of the Gospel lived as a community of faith, hope and love.

Morning Prayer, when together

God our Father, you strengthen our faith and our love

by confirming the witness of your prophets

and show us the splendour of your beloved daughters and sons.

As we listen to the voice of your Son

help us as a married couple to become heirs to eternal life with him

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

During the day, when apart

Merciful Lord, make holy your gifts in us.

Let the spiritual sacrifice of our sacrament of marriage

make us an everlasting gift to you.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Evening/Night Prayer together

Lord, you give us the strength of new life

through our daily loving of one another in marriage.

Protect us with your love

and prepare us for eternal redemption.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Questions for Action for the week

For your marriage: What special time will you give to each other this week?

For others: Think of some group that works for those suffering from famine.

How could you support that group this week?
