Through death to life
The week ahead, known to us as Holy Week, is the most important time of the whole year for us as Christians to grow in our knowledge of what our faith is about. Unfortunately it has increasingly become a time of heading to the sun for so many people. During this week we are put in touch with the reality of Christ’s death on the Cross for us and the wonderful knowledge of his Resurrection from the dead. We are also put in touch with the reality of the human condition that can change so quickly from enthusiasm to hatred as on Palm/Passion Sunday or from love to cowardice as on Holy Thursday. Thursday, Friday and Saturday are particularly important for us to give time to prayer and reflection that are provided for in the various liturgies. The Church is greatly weakened when people don’t give this time. Will you?
Morning Prayer, when together
Almighty ever-living God, you have given the human race
Jesus Christ our Saviour as a model of humility.
He fulfilled your will by becoming flesh
and giving his life on the cross.
Help us to bear witness to you
by following his example of suffering
and make us worthy to share in his resurrection
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
During the day, when apart
Lord, may the suffering and death of Jesus, your only Son
make us pleasing to you and win us your mercy and love.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
Evening/Night Prayer together
Father, the death of your Son gives us hope and strengthens our faith.
May his resurrection give us perseverance in our love
and lead us to salvation.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Questions for Action for the week
For your marriage: In what ways could you show your wife/husband how precious s/he is to you this week?
For others: Have you ever been betrayed or hurt by someone you loved?
How do you need to work at forgiving that person?
